Your questions answered

What is Dermalux LED Phototherapy?

Dermalux LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive treatment utilising specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular processes. This stimulation enhances the skin’s natural rejuvenation and healing abilities, addressing various dermatological conditions. The therapy employs red 633nm, blue 415nm , and near-infrared 830nm light, which are clinically proven to be effective in promoting skin health and treating conditions like acne, psoriasis, and aging skin.

Are there any potential side effects associated with Dermalux LED Phototherapy?

Dermalux LED Phototherapy has a high safety profile with minimal risk of irritation or side effects, as evidenced by over 3,000 published clinical studies. However, individuals on photosensitive medications or with specific health conditions should consult their healthcare provider prior to treatment due to potential increased sensitivity to light exposure.

Is Dermalux LED Phototherapy a safe treatment?

Dermalux LED has a high safety profile. It is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin conditions.

What sensations can be expected during the Dermalux LED Phototherapy session?

Dermalux treatment is a relaxing and pain-free experience. While the treatment itself does not generate heat, some users may experience a sensation of natural warmth due to increased blood circulation in the treated areas, contributing to an overall feeling of well-being

How many Dermalux LED Phototherapy sessions are typically required for optimal results?

The optimal number of Dermalux treatments varies based on factors such as which device is being used from the Dermalux portfolio, the specific condition being treated, its severity, and individual patient characteristics. Generally, an initial course of 8 to 12 sessions is recommended. More frequent treatments typically yield faster and more noticeable results.

What is the duration of the results obtained from Dermalux LED Phototherapy?

The results of Dermalux LED Phototherapy can last for several months, depending on the condition treated. For prolonged benefits, regular maintenance treatments are recommended as part of a continuous skin health regimen.

Can I apply a sheet mask during the Dermalux LED Phototherapy session?

Yes, certain types of sheet masks can be used during the Dermalux LED treatment. Specifically, transparent and hydrogel masks that do not block light can be beneficial. These masks allow the therapeutic light to penetrate the skin while providing additional hydration and nutrients. It is important to avoid opaque masks that could obstruct the light and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Always consult with the manufacturer’s instructions to choose the appropriate mask/ingredients for use with LED phototherapy.

Is it permissible to use topical skincare products during Dermalux LED Phototherapy?

Follow the instructions in the treatment manual for the best results when using topical products with Dermalux LED treatment. Here are specific guidelines:

Beneficial (✓):

Hyaluronic Acid
Peptides
Stem Cells
Growth Factors
Beta Glucan
Niacinamide
These ingredients are safe to apply on the skin prior to and during the Dermalux treatment. Use water-based serums and low viscosity gels that absorb quickly into the skin.

With Caution (✗):

Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Lactic Acid
Mandelic Acid
These ingredients may be used in low concentrations in conjunction with the Dermalux treatment, but the skin response should be monitored. Avoid using high concentrations of active ingredients immediately after treatment, especially for sensitive or problematic skin.

Avoid (✗):

Glycolic Acid
Salicylic Acid
Benzoyl Peroxide
Kojic Acid
Retinol
Hydroquinone
Titanium Dioxide
Zinc Oxide
Do not apply topical products that contain these ingredients during the Dermalux treatment as they create a barrier that inhibits light penetration. Such products can be used post-treatment. Skin peels may be used directly before the Dermalux treatment as long as they are neutralized in advance.

Does Dermalux LED Phototherapy stimulate the production of Vitamin D?

No, Dermalux does not stimulate Vitamin D production. Vitamin D synthesis requires UVB light, which is not used in Dermalux treatments. Dermalux employs specific wavelengths in the visible and near-infrared spectrum, which do not contribute to Vitamin D production.

Can Dermalux LED Phototherapy induce tanning of the skin?

No, Dermalux will not induce tanning. It uses wavelengths outside the UV spectrum, specifically targeted to therapeutic wavelengths, ensuring no UV exposure and therefore no tanning effect.

Why is the near-infrared light used in Dermalux LED Phototherapy invisible to the human eye?

Human vision is limited to wavelengths between approximately 400nm and 700nm. Near-infrared (NIR) light, used in Dermalux treatments, has a wavelength at 830nm, which are invisible to the human eye despite their powerful therapeutic effects.

Is near-infrared light effective when used alone in Dermalux LED Phototherapy?

Yes, near-infrared (NIR) light has significant therapeutic benefits. It promotes wound healing, accelerates tissue repair, and provides calming and soothing effects for inflammatory and problematic skin conditions. Additionally, NIR light is effective for pain relief.

Why does my client have blue/purple marks on their body after using the Flex?

Some users of LED Phototherapy may experience non-permanent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after intense treatments where the LEDs are in contact with the skin. To mitigate this risk, Dermalux insists on maintaining a minimum distance of 2.5cm between the skin and the LEDs when using the Flex MD device. Our medical advisor, Dr. Ian Strawford, explains that if PIH occurs, it typically resolves on its own, but topical treatments such as retinoids, azelaic acid, and hydroquinone can help. Using sunscreens with SPF 50+ is also recommended to protect the skin. For further advice, please consult a healthcare professional.

Why can't the Flex be placed directly on the body?

Some users of LED Phototherapy may experience non-permanent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after intense treatments where the LEDs are in contact with the skin. How do I support the Flex over an area to maintain the recommended 25mm distance?
